Donald E. McHenry, age 90, of Brookside Village, Berwick, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. He is now at peace with our Heavenly Father.
He entered this world on April 14, 1934, at the family home in Fishingcreek Township, the son of the late John L. and C. Maude (Diltz) McHenry. He graduated from Benton High School in 1952.
Don married Jackie Autotore and loved the birth of their three children: John, David and Donna. Sadly, Jackie passed away in 1975
In 1981, Don married Shirley (Crotzer) Hess and they enjoyed a wonderful and loving 43 years together. They traveled the world and covered every state in the United States. They especially enjoyed cruising.
Don retired from Merck & Co., Danville in 1992.
He was a very kind and gentle man, and he loved talking to everyone and anyone. He especially enjoyed having coffee with the guys from Hazleton.
Don was a member of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Y. Stauder and Cathie Rock and a grandson, Brian Billig.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: John McHenry and his wife Roseanne of Millville, David McHenry of Bloomsburg and Donna wife of Douglas Wicks of Morris; three step children: Cathy wife of Barry Galutia of Berwick, Larry Hess and his wife Sherry of Freeburg, William Hess of Berwick; six grandchildren: Eddie Miller, Jackie wife of Derrick Olock, Natalie wife of Eric Steppe, Jennifer Schloyer, and her companion Marco Medori, Angela wife of George Hess, and Lara wife of Adam Poppelmaier; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Judy wife of Ed Graber of Westfield Center, Ohio and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy with his pastor, Kelly Kocher Ross, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Ridge Street United Methodist Church 145 Ridge St., Bloomsburg, Pa 1815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
