Donald C. “Don” Horne, age 83, 154 Picnic Grove Road, Catawissa, died at 2:14 p. m. Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Balanced Care At Bloomsburg nursing facility in Scott Township where he was a patient for three weeks. He was seriously ill since Sept. 16th.
Born in Locust Township June 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Claude C. and Mae (Rarig) Horne. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Locust Township High School. He spent his early life in Locust Township, moving to Florida in 1971 and returning to Locust Township in 2005.
Don was employed by Borden’s Inc., Orlando, Florida, starting as a route man and finishing his career in production. Following his return to Locust Township, he enjoyed working at Knoebel’s Grove Park during the summer season as the engineer on the train, “Old Smokey”.
He attended the Kulp United Methodist Church.
Don loved animals of all kinds. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and helping his neighbors.
He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean L. Carl, with whom he celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary on October 17th; a son, Donald D. Horne, Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Jean, wife of Jeffrey Burton, Maynardville, Tenn.; two grandsons: Zachary Burton and Samuel Burton, both of Maynardville, Tenn.; two sisters: Edna Rarich, McClure and Claudine, wife of Furn Fuhrman, Bethlehem; and a brother, Harry Horne, Bement, Ill.
Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced.
