Donald R. "Woodsy" Woods, age 60, 722 Liberty Valley Road, Danville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 while visiting at the home of a friend in Danville.
Born on June 4, 1955 in Boone, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Norman and Margaret (Abernathy) Woods. He resided in Danville most of his life.
A 1973 graduate of the Columbia Montour Vocational Technical School, he was employed as a welder in his working days.
He was a member of the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church and a social member of the American Legion Post 40, both of Danville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Penny E. Barnhart, on April 18, 2014.
Surviving are two daughters: Melissa Brittain and Raven Woods, both of Danville; a step- son, Jason Poeth, Texas; five grandchildren: Dylan Brittain, Carly Elliott, Zoey Brittain, William Cannariato, and Kordin Elliott; and a brother, Norman Woods, and his wife Judy, Lewes, Del.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 3 p. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with Rev, Nancy Shank, rector of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call from 2-3 p. m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
