Doris (Corbett) “Dorry” Dillon age 84, 7425 Pelican Bay Blvd., Naples, Fla., died peacefully at her home at 2:10 a. m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, surrounded by her children.
Born in the Bronx, New York, she attended Pelham High School in Westchester County, New York and graduated from Cornell University in 1948. While attending Cornell, she met Douglas K. Dillon, whom she later would marry. She earned a degree in economics at Cornell and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
After marrying Douglas in 1948, the two embarked upon a life-long journey of raising a family and running the family rose growing and wholesale floral business in Bloomsburg. Dorry dedicated herself to supporting her husband’s many important leadership roles within the floral industry.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg, where she served on the altar guild and became the Church’s first female vestry person in 1973. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a group dedicated to supporting women’s education worldwide. After moving to Naples, she joined St. John’s Episcopal Church where she attended Sunday services and centering prayer on a regular basis.
Dorry was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Douglas, on Sept. 30, 2010.
Surviving are her three sons: John L. Dillon, and his wife Vivian, Albuquerque, New Mex.; Charles C. Dillon, and his wife Margy, Questa, New Mex.; Robert W. Dillon, and his fiance Renee’, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Jackson Dillon, Jennifer wife of Dan Laabes, Evan, Patrick and Sean Dillon; and two great grandchildren: Layla and Sidney.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a. m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, E. Main & Iron Streets, Bloomsburg. The Rev. Canon Marjorie A. Menaul will officiate. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. There will be no viewing.
Flowers will be graciously accepted as an expression of love and sympathy. Memorials may be sent to Avow Hospice, 1095, Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fla. 34105 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 764, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
