DORIS L. RUCKLE
Doris L. Ruckle, age 81, formerly of Port Noble Drive, Bloomsburg and The Meadows at Maria Joseph, Danville, died at 3:55 a. m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Columbia Montour Hospice At Maria Hall, Danville where she was a patient for one week. Previously she was a patient at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville.
Born in Anthony Township, Montour County on Sept. 29, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Edna (Frantz) Snyder. She resided in Bloomsburg since 1966.
Doris was a 1947 graduate of the former Turbotville High School and attended the Empire Cosmetology School, Williamsport.
She was employed by the Town of Bloomsburg Police Department as the first female parking enforcement officer, retiring in 1988 after 21 years of service.
Doris was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg and the Trinity In Missions group of the Church.
She was married to David S. Ruckle on Jan. 18, 1949 and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2007 ending a marital union of 58 years. A brother, Emerson Snyder preceded her in death in 1986.
Surviving are a son, David S. Ruckle, and his wife Vanessa, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Rhonda R., wife of Thomas C. Miller, Boalsburg; two granddaughters: Lindsay, wife of Will Hanna, Danville and Lauren, wife of Brent Traugh, Bloomsburg; and four great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt officiating. Interment in Hidlay's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 10 - 11 a. m.
