Dorothy M. Deitterick, age 75, of 1073 Ridge Road, Orangeville (Bendertown), died at 7:45 a. m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 at the Emmanuel Center For Nursing in Danville, where she was a patient since June 14, 2019.
Born at the Bloomsburg Hospital on January 19, 1944, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Mary (Swerdon) Deitterick. She resided in Bendertown most of her life and was a 1961 graduate of Benton High School and a 1965 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.
Dorothy was a fourth grade teacher for 35 years, retiring in 2000. She began her teaching career at Benton Area Elementary School, working there for three years and then taught at Penn Delco Elementary School in Aston for three years. Following the death of her father, she returned to Bendertown and became a teacher at the Huntington Mills Elementary School of the Northwest Area School District, where she remained until retiring in 2000.
She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick.
Dorothy enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She loved traveling, painting, baking, cooking and her pets.
She is survived by two sisters: Jean A. Deitterick, with whom she resided and Mary Markowski, Honesdale; two nieces: Dr. Laura Matz and her husband, Dr. Phillip Matz, Chandler, Ariz. and Katherine, wife of R. Zachary Bryant, Honesdale; a great- niece, Whitney Matz and three great-nephews: Nicholas Matz, Caleb Bryant and Abraham Bryant. Her great-niece and great-nephews were the love of her life.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with her pastor, Rev. Stephen G. Portner, officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery near Bendertown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers . Friends may remember Dorothy and her love of children with a contribution to The Children's Museum, 2 West Seventh St., Bloomsburg, Pa 17815.
