Dorothy Elizabeth Evans

Dorothy Elizabeth (Shaffer) Evans, age 90, formerly of Country Club Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 1:42 a. m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Greenfield Senior Living, Schwenksville, Montgomery County.

Born on October 16, 1926 in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of the late Carl E. and Bessie Amanda (Kishbaugh) Shaffer. She resided in Bloomsburg most of her lifetime, except for the period of 1973 to 1987 when she and her husband resided in Downers Grove, Ill. They retired and returned to Bloomsburg in 1987.

  Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

Early in her life she was employed in an insurance office and as the parish secretary for St. Matthew Lutheran Church. While living in Illinois, she was employed in insurance and real estate offices.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church; the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary; and the Fort McClure Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Dorothy enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Darl L. Evans, on December 1, 2007;  by three sisters: Genevieve Martha Shaffer, Tillie Marie Hyde, Betty Arlene Shoemaker; and a brother, Ray E. Shaffer.

Surviving are two daughters: Deborah, wife of Nevin Scholl, Trappe; Susanne Evans, and her partner, David Conner, Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Benjamin Scholl, Wayne; Kyle Martin, Millville; Jeffrey Scholl, Baltimore, Md.; Amanda Scholl, DePere, Wis.; one great grandson; a sister  Helena Jeanne Bower, Bloomsburg; nine nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Fort McClure Chapter, DAR will hold memorial services at 11 a. m., followed by the religious service. Friends may call from 10-11 a. m.
