Dorothy C. Hoffman, age 91, formerly of Charles Street, Danville, died at 7:51 a. m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, Danville, where she was a guest for six years.
Born in Altoona on August 5, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Catherine (Wentzel) Anderson. She resided in Danville since 1982.
Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of Frankfurt High School, Philadelphia.
Early in her life she was employed at the former Gimbel's Department Store and Curtis Publishing Co., both of Philadelphia. She was later employed by the National Savings Trust Bank, Washington, DC. She traveled extensively with husband following his employment in Lebanon, Thailand, Rome, Germany and London, England.
Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Danville, where she sang in the choir for many years and also belonged to the Happy Joes Birthday Club at the Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Donald J. Anderson, on April 7, 1979; and by her husband, Charles O. Hoffman on July 23, 2009, following 58 years of marriage.
Surviving is a daughter, Ruth Mary, wife of Edward P. Spohn, Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Helen Gerringer, Danville; six nieces: Donna Meredith, Iowa; Patty Mulcahy, Wisconsin; Carol Tringale, Hershey; Mary Jo Powers, Florida; Janet L. Hoffman, Riverside; Beth Mertz, Danville; two nephews: Art Gerringer and Ray Gerringer, both of Danville; as well as a number of great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 6 p. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville. The Rosary will be recited starting at 5:30 p. m. Private interment will be in Washingtonville Cemetery. A memorial mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at a later date.
