Dorothy E. Keefer

Dorothy E. Keefer, age 88, 34 Ash St., Danville, died at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Balanced Care at Bloomsburg, Scott Twp., where she had been a patient since December.

Born in Point Twp., Northumberland County, on April 3, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Getha L. (Keiser) Newbury. A 1941 graduate of Danville High School, she resided in Danville for most of her life.

Dorothy worked as a machine operator for the former Roselon Yarns in Danville for many years, and more recently she was employed with the Danville News
.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Emanuel United Methodist Church, Danville. Her other memberships include Women of the Moose Chapter 930, and the Valley Grange #1188, where she had been an active member for 41 years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Y. Keefer on May 24, 1994; a brother, Allen Newbury; and by a son-in-law, Daniel Doyle.

Surviving are five children: Dolores, wife of John Croker, Wilburton; Barbara L., wife of Marlin “Jim” Beshore, Bloomsburg; Sherry A. Doyle, Atlas; Debara L., wife of Michael Chyko, Lightstreet; and Gary R. Keefer, Danville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Newbury, Northumberland; three sisters: E. Arlene, wife of David E. Bird, Catawissa; Jean, wife of Harold Woodruff, Catawissa; and Doris, wife of Robert Snyder, Bloomsburg.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with Pastor Eric J. Miller, pastor of the Bloomsburg Christian Church, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m
.
