Dorothy M. Newman, age 87, 524 Katy’s Church Road, Muncy, died at 6:27 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where she was a guest for five days. She was in failing health for several years.

Born in Hawthorne, New Jersey on July 13, 1928, she was a daughter of the late  Wilfred and Ethel (Burgess) Nutt and  was a graduate of Manasquan (New Jersey) High School.

Dorothy resided in Madison Township, Columbia County since 1979 and was a member of the Columbia Montour Garden Club, as well as a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kendra King; a grandson, Alan Newman; and a brother, Hedley Nutt.

Surviving is her husband of 67 years, Jordan A. Newman, who she married on September 11, 1948 in Belmar, New Jersey; two daughters: Norah, wife of John Ranck, Danville and Jerilynn Newman, Haywood, Calif.; two sons: Barry Newman, Houston, Texas and Scott Newman, and his wife Chris, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Springer Chapel of First Baptist Church, 20 Brookside Drive, Danville, with the Rev. Dawes J. Dunham officiating. Private burial in White Hall Cemetery at a later date. The family will provide flowers.
