Dorothy  (Jacobs)  Shaffer

Dorothy (Jacobs) Shaffer, age 95, formerly of Scott Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 2:48 p. m. Thursday, January 3, 2013,  at the Grandview Health Homes, Danville, where she resided for 18 years.

Born in Berwick on January 23, 1917, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Elizabeth (Miller) Jacobs. She resided for most of her life in Bloomsburg.

Dorothy was a homemaker who treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and extended family. She also enjoyed walking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Shaffer, on May 12, 1999; by a son, John E. Shaffer on May 28, 1994; by two brothers: Warren Jacobs and Arthur Jacobs; and by two sisters: Helen Kahler and Charlotte Deeney.

Dorothy is survived by a son, George W. Shaffer, and his wife Cathy, Summerville, South Carolina; a daughter, Helen M. Shaffer, Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Mark Shaffer, Scott Shaffer, Tiffany Krum, Jillian Hummer; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p. m.
