Dorothy A. (Longenberger) Thomas, age 91, formerly of Main Street, Lightstreet, went to be with her dear Savior at 11:47 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Balanced Care at Bloomsburg, where she was a guest for two years.
Born in Roaring Creek Township, Columbia County on June 6, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Ida (Bogert) Longenberger. She resided in the Bloomsburg area her entire life, and lived in Lightstreet for over 50 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker, and in addition to helping raise her eight brothers and sisters she also took in laundry and did ironing. Her favorite pastimes were bluegrass music; camping; flowers; and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark E. Thomas on January 31, 2005; a son, Robert Mark âBobâ Thomas on February 2, 2013; four brothers: Walter Longenberger, Troy Longenberger, Lawrence Longenberger and Robert Longenberger; and two sisters: Katherine Weeks and Lois Gilbert.
Surviving is a daughter, Dorothy Farrell, Berwick; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two brothers: Donald Longenberger, wife Geraldine, and Lester Longenberger, all of Berwick; daughter-in-law, Deborah Thomas, Bloomsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing at the funeral home on Friday from 12 noon - 2 p.m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
