DOROTHY S. THOMAS
Dorothy S. Thomas, age 91, formerly of East Tenth St., Bloomsburg, died at 11:06 a. m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Balanced Care At Bloomsburg, a nursing facility, in Scott Township, where she was a patient since February.
Born in Bloomsburg on October 17, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Lillian Mae (Sorber) Evans Cook. She spent her entire life in Bloomsburg and was a 1937 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
In her early life, she was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. and later she was employed in the food service program at the former Bloomsburg State College, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy. She also belonged to the Bloomsburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Thomas, Sr. on Jan. 20, 1993; by a brother, Dewey Evans, Jr.; and three sisters: Beverly June Simons, Larissa Lumpkin and Virginia Hippensteel.
Surviving are four children: Paul L. Thomas, II, and his wife Jackie, Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg; Brenda, wife of William H. Benscoter, Berwick; Mark W. Thomas, and his wife Sandra, Danville; Dale L. Thomas, and his wife Debbie, Orangeville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Private funeral services will be held from the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith officiating. Interment in St Peter's (Grovania) Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. John Lutheran Chruch, 2575 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
