Douglas Kistler Dillon, age 85, of Pelican Bay (Naples), Florida and formerly of Bloomsburg died at his home early Thursday, September 30, 2010.

He was born in Bloomsburg on May 22, 1925, a son of the late Charles H. and Marian (Kistler) Dillon. After graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1943, he served with the US Naval Air Corps for two years before graduating from Cornell University in 1948 with a degree in Floraculture.

A distinguished leader in the floral industry for over 50 years, he was Chairman of the Board of the Dillon Floral Corp .in Bloomsburg, a family owned business founded in 1875 by his grandfather, John Lloyd Dillon. As a grower and wholesaler of signature roses and other flowers and plants, Mr. Dillon served on the boards of directors of the Society of American Florists, Roses Inc.; Florists Mutual Insurance Company, and many more trade associations dedicated to the development of American florists, growers and wholesalers.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bloomsburg, where he was a former vestryman and trustee. Mr. Dillon was a longtime member and past president of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club; former President of the Bloomsburg Hospital Board; and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Columbia Bank & Trust Co.

A life long golfer, Mr. Dillon played over 200 different golf courses internationally, and was a founding member of the Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville. He also belonged to the The Club At Pelican Bay.

He and his wife, the former Dorry Corbett, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 21, 2010. They were residents of Pelican Bay since 1982 and retired there full time in 2007.  Surviving in addition to his wife, who played a supportive role in his work of serving the floral industry  worldwide are his three sons: John L. Dillon, and his wife Vivian, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Charles C. Dillon, and his wife Margy, Questa, New Mexico; Robert W. Dillon, and his fiance’ Renee, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren and their partners: Michael, Kristin, Jessica, Jackson, Jennifer, Dan, Evan, Stephanie, Patrick and Sean Douglas; and two great- grandchildren: Layla and Sidney Douglas.

Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, East Main & Iron Streets, Bloomsburg, on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 11 a. m., by Rev. Canon Marjorie A. Menaul. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. There will no viewing.
