E. June Ortman, age 89, formerly of Dutch Hill area of Bloomsburg, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014 while at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for two and a half weeks.
Born in Hemlock Twp., Columbia County on June 4, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Elizabeth F. (Grimes) Howell. She spent her entire life in the Dutch Hill area, and attended the Buckhorn Elementary School before graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1946. She also was a graduate of a beauty school in Wilkes-Barre.
June operated a beauty shop at her home on Dutch Hill for ten years, and later worked at the family business, Bloomsburg Dairies on Millville Road.
She was a lifelong member of Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She also belonged to the Miquon Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists.
June enjoyed her many years as a scout leader, both girls and boys. She was known for baking cookies, which she gave away.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald R. Howell on August 2, 1998; and a sister, Joann Reichard on December 8, 1998.
Surviving are four children: Ronald G. Ortman, wife Pat; Linda Kay Kile; Gary L. Ortman, wife Georgia; David A. Ortman, wife Sherry, all of Bloomsburg; ten grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, 592 Dutch Hill Road, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. George A. Zerbe officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m.
