E. Mae Shoemaker, age 83, RR #2 Box 882, Coal Twp., Northumberland Co., died at 12:15 a. m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at Mountain View Manor, Coal Twp., where she had been a patient for ten days. She was in failing health for one year.

Born in Emporium on August 24, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Wade H. and Sarah R. (Atwell) Cunningham. She was a 1944 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

A long time resident of Bloomsburg, she resided on East Eighth Street for many years and Iron Street for five years before moving to Coal Twp. last year.

Mae was employed by the x-ray department of the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville for over 20 years, retiring in June of 1982.

She was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg.

Mae enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in the newspaper and playing cards. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles E. Shoemaker on June 26, 1989; a daughter: Vivian M. Deitterick on January 5, 2009; three sisters: Marian Stadler, Helen E. Nygren and Catherine A. Hoppes and three brothers: Charles V. Cunningham, Wade E. Cunningham and Hugh D. Cunningham.

Surviving is a daughter: Patricia Ann Hardin, Coal Twp.; a son-in-law: Terry L. Deitterick, Sr., Berwick; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and two brothers: James H. Cunningham, wife Vivian M., Catawissa and Paul E. Cunningham, wife Anna Mae, Bloomsburg.

A private gathering will be held at the convenience of the family. Private interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
