EARL  E.  DAVIS,  JR.

Earl E. Davis, Jr., age 78, 67 W. Overlook Street, Orangeville (Stoney Brook Circle) died at his home early Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.

Born in Bloomsburg on Sept. 14, 1933, he was the only son of the late Earl E., Sr. and Lydia (Fortner) Davis.. He resided in the Bloomsburg area for much of his lifetime.

He was a 1951 graduate of the former Scott Township High School and also attended Indiana University of PA and Penn State University.

Earl was last employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as a revenue investigator, retiring in 1996 after 23 years employment. Earlier he was employed as the manager of Hess's Tavern, Bloomsburg from 1961 to 1972. He also operated a stand at the Bloomsburg Fair from 1971 to 1988.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy.

Earl was a life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler and a past District Deputy; the former Winona Fire Co.
and of the Fireman's Relief Association.

He was active in politics, serving as a member of the Columbia County Democratic Committee.

Earl served as the Superintendent of Ticket Takers for the Bloomsburg Fair Association from 1986 to 2005.

He served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion and a life member of the Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW.

Surviving are his former wife, Shirley L. (Derr) Davis, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Kelly J. Hoover, Berwick; two sons: Michael Rupert and his wife Kim;  Christopher E. Davis and his wife, Jan. E. Bryan-Davis, both of Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith officiating. Interment with military honors by the combined VFW group  will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:30 a. m. to 11 a. m. Elks memorial services will be at 10:45 a. m.

The family will provide flowers. Friends may send contributions to the Bloomsburg Chapter, American Red Cross for local flood relief, 119 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
