Earl L. VanHorn, age 78, 3707 Point Township Drive, Northumberland and formerly of Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly at his home at 3:46 a. m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 10, 1938, he was a son of the late David S. and Mary (Young) VanHorn. He resided in Point Township, Northumberland County for the past 3 years and previously lived in Bloomsburg.
Earl was employed as a custodian by Verizon for 32 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Bloomsburg, where he loved to work on fund raising projects to help send kids to church camp. He also volunteered at the church camp, and especially enjoyed cooking for the kids. He also served as a Little League coach for many years.
Earl was a member of the Espy Fire Company, Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; Columbia County Moose Lodge 623; and Local 13000 of the Communications Workers of America union.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joyce Ann Conrad, on April 27, 1997; by two brothers: Donald VanHorn and Roland VanHorn; and a sister, Dorothy VanHorn.
Surviving are his companion, Karen Moyer, with whom he resided; two daughters: Paula J., wife of Buck Zeisloft, Bloomsburg and Roxann E., wife of Ronald Replogle, Martinsburg; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers: Bernard VanHorn, and his wife Diane, Bloomsburg and Robert VanHorn, and his wife Linda, Orwigsburg; a sister, Dora Mae VanHorn, Pottsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Community of Christ Church, 750 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Elder Greg Ardito officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1-2 p. m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Community of Christ Church,. 750 Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 for the Youth Camp Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
