Eddie Lee Wingate

Eddie Lee Wingate, age 78, of Woodbine Lane, Danville, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, the former Evelyn Thomas, who passed away in 2015.

Born in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Julius and Mattie (Nichols) Wingate. He moved to Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville, after residing with his daughter in Windham, Conn. He previously lived on Fair Street in Bloomsburg for 22 years. He was raised in Danville.

Eddie was employed at the Merck & Co. Cherokee plant in Riverside and after retiring from Merck he had no problem keeping busy. If he wasn’t tinkering on something in his shed, he could be found exploring auctions, yard sales and flea markets in search of a great find. He also had a passion for local fairs, carnivals, festivals and especially the Bloomsburg Fair. Eddie valued his family and friends.

Eddie will be remembered fondly for his contagious smile and his kind and compassionate nature. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Johnnie Mack Wingate and his sister Loretta Joyce Jones.

He is remembered lovingly by his son Michael L. Wingate of Bloomsburg and his daughter Lisa L. Rixey of Windham, Conn., by his five grandchildren: Tishena Sheatler, Jeffrey Walter, Samuel Rixey Rachael Vorman and Zachary Vorman; and by his eight great-grandchildren: Areana, Damian, Ryder, Regan, Brooklyn, Owen, Declan and Findley.

Graveside services will be held at a later date due to current travel restrictions.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
