Edward Bucher, Jr.
Edward Bucher, Jr., age 90, 121 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, died at 2:38 a. m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he was a patient for four years.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 19, 1923, he was a son of the late Edward A. and Atta Belle (Stauffer) Bucher. He was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg.
Ed was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, for 44 years, last working as a press operator in the Auto Fab Department when he retired in Feb., 1986.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church; Fort McClure Post 804, Bloomsburg, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Arthur Bardo Post, American Legion, Millville; and the disabled Veterans Association of Danville.
Ed served with US Army during World War II, taking part in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. He was wounded in action during the Rhineland Campaign on Sept. 30, 1944 and received the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret L. Swisher, on November 10, 1994; by three sisters: Hazel M. Kessler; Madeline Moyer; Martha Shaffer; and a brother, Harry M. Bucher.
Surviving is his daughter, Tammy Jo, wife of Del Mericle, Bloomsburg; two grandchildren: Mitch Mericle and Megan Mericle, both of Bloomsburg; two brothers: Ralph Bucher; Robert Bucher, and his wife Barbara; and a sister, Joan, wife of Richard Keyser, all of Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of the Hendrickson - Mooresburg United Methodist Churches officiating. Interment in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW group. Viewing will be on Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p. m.
