EDWARD JEREMIAH McMENAMIN
Edward Jeremiah McMenamin, age 92, 245 W. Anthony Ave., Bloomsburg, decided to spend Christmas with Jesus this year, entering into eternal rest at 1 p. m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at the Columbia Montour Home Hospice At Maria Hall, Danville.
Born in Philadelphia on Oct. 18, 1919, he was a son of the late Jeremiah and Mary (McMenamin) McMenamin. His step mother was the late Katie Herron. He resided with his family both in Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
As a child Ed was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Philadelphia, attending their parish school and went on to graduate from Roman Catholic High School in 1939. He resided in Ardsley for over 50 years before moving to Bloomsburg in July, 2005, when his wife entered Bloomsburg Health Care Center.
Ed was last employed by Independent Thriftway Grocery Stores, Philadelphia, working at various stores for over 50 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked for Lulu Temple Country Club, North Hills, for over 30 years.
He served with the US Army during World War II.
Ed usually was a quiet man, but he never failed to tell a family member or friend "to watch yourself" as they left his home. We knew that it meant to be careful. Please remember him in your prayers.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Concetta L "Connie" Checchia, on January 3, 2008.
He is survived by a son, James Edward McMenamin, Sr., and his wife Helen, Bloomsburg; two grandchildren: Jessica Rhoades, Bloomsburg and James Edward McMenamin, Jr., and his wife Erin, Astoria, New York; and one great-grandson, Hughie, Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Columba Catholic Church 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, today (Thursday) at 10 a. m. His pastor, Mgsr. Robert E. Lawrence will be the celebrant. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The family will receive friends at the Church from 9:30 a. m. to 10 a. m.
The family will rovide flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Columba School, 40 E. Third St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
