Elva B. Young, age 94, 18 Ivy Lane, Danville, died at 5:47 p. m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center, Bloomsburg, where she was a guest since January. She was in failing health since December, 2014.
Born in Danville on March 22, 1921, she was a daughter of the late James W. and Emma M. (Prentiss) Wertman. A 1939 graduate of Danville High School, she went on to receive her Registered Nurse degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Elva resided in Danville for 12 years and previously lived in Chesterfield, Missouri for over 40 years. She owned and operated a bar/restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri for over 20 years retiring in 1991.
She served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Young, Jr. on January 2, 1971 and by five siblings: Clyde Wertman, Violet Johns, Thelma Tobias, Lucille Kiffilo and Charles âRuxâ Wertman.
Surviving are a son, Tom Young with whom she resided; a granddaughter, Heather, wife of Tracy Allcock, Mendon, Mass.; a great-granddaughter, Avery Allcock; a great-grandson, Jackson Allcock; and a brother, James âLeapoâ Wertman, and his wife Althea, Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m., November 24, 2015, in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville, with the Rev. Trevor J. Hahn, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be made in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Friends may call from 1-2 p. m.
