Emil R. “Andy” Anderson age 92, formerly of Montour Boulevard, Bloomsburg died peacefully at the Maria Joseph Manor in Danville on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
Born in Catawissa on June 6, 1931, he was a son of the late Emil A and Ethel (Smith) Anderson. His step mother was the late Marcella Anderson. He resided in Bloomsburg most of his life and attended the former Ben Franklin School on the campus of Bloomsburg State Normal School and later the Bloomsburg Public Schools.
Andy was employed as a truck driver for 35 years for Norwich Trucking, Brandt Trucking, and several others. He was then employed at Kawneer Co. for ten years as a door assembler retiring in 1995. He then worked parttime for Kawneer as a courier for 14 years.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg for over 60 years and served as an usher. He also belonged to Washington Lodge 265, F & A.M. and Caldwell Consistory.
Andy served his country as a member of the U. S. Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
He and his wife delivered Meals on Wheels and attended the Bloomsburg Senior Center at St. Luke Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading the Readers Digest and Guide Posts, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitare and watching television.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, the former Anna Mae Reichert, on January 3, 2021; two sisters, Joyce Hock and Rose Marie Cooper and by two brothers, William Anderson and Thomas Anderson.
Andy is survived by twin children, Roanna, wife of Leroy Pifer, Jr of Millsboro, Delaware and Robert F. Anderson and his wife Sheila, Key West, Florida; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 2 p. m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park where military honors will be provided by the combined American Legion and VFW honor guard. Friends may call at the Church parlor from 1-2 p. m. Masonic memorial services will be held at 2 p. m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in his name to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325Market Street, Bloomsburg.
