Erith J. Stevens

Erith J. (Wenner) Stevens, age 90,  1798 Old Tioga Turnpike, Stillwater (New Columbus) died at her home on Tuesday afternoon, June 6, 2017, after an illness of six months.

She was born in Fishingcreek Township on July 19, 1926, a daughter of the late Edwin K. and Sallie (Beishline) Wenner. She spent her entire life in Fishingcreek Township and New Columbus Borough. She was a 1944 graduate of Benton High School and a 1947 graduate of the former Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing in Danville.

Erith was a Registered Nurse at the Berwick Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church and served as the church organist for many years. She also belonged to the New Columbus Academy Memorial Hall Association and was a member of the former Columbia Chapter 177, Order of Eastern Star, Benton, for many years.

Erith loved to read and do cross stitching. Her favorite time was on Sunday when she prepared dinner for her entire family for many years, until about two years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert B. Stevens, on October 5, 2012 and by her sister, Betty Lunger.

Erith is survived by  her son, R. Edwin Stevens, and his wife Carolyn, Benton; two daughters: Deborah Lynn, wife of Donald J. Stone, D. O., Stillwater and Sally L. Chapin, and her companion, Mark Cressinger, Stillwater; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one nephew and one niece.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, with her pastor, Rev. Bethany P. Wood officiating. Interment in St. James Cemetery, Fishingcreek Township.

Viewing on Friday from 6 - 8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton or at the Church on Saturday after 10 a. m.
