Eugene M. âGeneâ Campbell, age 79, 88 Buckhorn Road, Bloomsburg, died at 6:45 a. m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Grandview Health Homes, Danville, where he was a patient since June 30, 2011. He was in failing health for the past year.
Born in Cleveland Township, Columbia County on April 24, 1932, he was a son of the late George H. and Emma (Bell) Campbell. He was a 1950 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and resided in Buckhorn since 1963.
Gene was employed by the former Bell Atlantic Telephone Co., now Verizon, for 32 years retiring in 1989.
He was a longtime member of the Buckhorn United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Elysburg Lodge 349, F & AM and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He also belonged to the Arthur K. Bardo, Post 564, American Legion, Millville.
Gene served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Darwin Campbell and Jack G. Campbell.
Surviving are his wife, the former Judith K. Fox, with whom he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on February 5, 2011; a daughter, Dina, wife of Jody W. Hutson, D.O., Galivants Ferry, S.C.; two sons: Scott E. Campbell, and his wife Amy, Cumming, GA and Curtis J. Campbell, Chambersburg; six grandchildren: Jeremy Hutson, Emily Hutson, Gavin Hutson, Ian Campbell, Madison Campbell, Tristan Campbell; two brothers: George W. Campbell, Bloomsburg and Gerald Campbell, McClure; and a sister, Betty Burrows, Lewisburg.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2:30 p. m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Columbarium, Bloom Road, Danville, with his pastor, Audrey M. Brosious officiating. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW group. There will be no calling hours.
