EVELYN M. KANIGOSKY
Evelyn L. Kanigosky, age 88, 29 Saluki Road, Bloomsburg, died at 3 a. m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at the home of her daughter Mary in Elkton, Md. She was in failing health since November, 2010.
Born in Mt. Carmel on May 5, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Shopenski) Maurer. She resided in Bloomsburg since 1978 and previously resided in Wilmington, Del. for 30 years.
She was a 1941 graduate of the former Locust Township High School in Numidia.
Evelyn was an active member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg, where she sang in the Resurection Choir for many years and served as a special minister. She was a past president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women at the Church, volunteered in the cafeteria, assisted at rummage sales, the Bloomsburg Fair stand, making perogies and the childrens play group. She also volunteered at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville and assisted with meals on wheels.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Kanigosky, on Sept. 19, 1991; by three brothers: Charles Else, Sr.,Lawrence Else, Joseph Maurer; and by five sisters: Myrtle Bartinchak, Amelia Ervine, Catherine Leiby, Ivy Helwig and Miriam Wegrzynowicz.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda K., wife of Craig L. Baker, Bloomsburg and Mary, wife of John B. Kozlowski, Elkton, Md; six grandchildren, one great- grandson and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by the Very Rev. Francis J. Tamburro. Interment in St. Casimir's Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Evelyn's friends will recite the rosary at 6 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to a Catholic charity of the donor's choice.
