EVELYN L. PAULHAMUS
The life of Evelyn L. Paulhamus, age 88, 2565 Old Berwick Road, (Espy) Bloomsburg, came to an end at 10:55 p. m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in the peaceful surroundings of the Columbia Montour Hospice At Maria Hall , Danville, where she was a guest for five days. Her death followed a lengthy illness.
She was born in Bloomsburg on March 30, 1923 a daughter of the late Lehman and Helen (Werkheiser) Stiner and grew up living on East Eighth Street.
Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She spent the first 19 years of her life in Bloomsburg, moving to Bristol with her husband John in 1942 and returning to live in Espy in 1987.
She was employed as a secretary for Kaiser Aircraft from 1944-45 supporting the was effort, while her husband served his country in the U. S. Navy. Following the war, she began a 20 year career in the medical arena , working initially in the admitting office of the Lower Bucks County Hospital, followed by five years as personal secretary to the administrator of the Delaware County Hospital. She culminated her career by working as the office manager for a Levittown surgeon, Dr. Richard Citta.
Evelyn was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy.
She was a dialysis patient at Geisinger Medical Center since October, 2009 and had been living with her nephew, Robert Stiner and his family in Danville since October, 2011.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John L. Paulhamus on July 22, 1999 and by a brother, Doyle L. Stiner on March 2, 1943.
Surviving in addition to her nephew Robert D. Stiner and his wife Beverly is another nephew, Robert Cooper, Towanda and a niece, Elizabeth, wife of William Lightbourn, Williamsport.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Susan O. Rogutski and her neighbor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 a. m.
