Francis L. “Budd” Davenport, age 93, of 450 Waller Ave., Bloomsburg, passed away at Grandview Health & Rehabilitation, Danville, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019.
Born in Catawissa on August 15, 1925, he was the son of Frank D. and Catherine E. (Schug) Davenport. He had been a resident of Bloomsburg since 1947.
Budd served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, traveling around the world twice. He served on five ships: U.S.S. James G. Pettigrew; U.S.S. Phillip H. Sheridan; U.S.S. George Handley; U.S.S. William Wirt; and U.S.S. Samuel Blatchford.
He formerly worked at the Bloomsburg school district as the superintendent of maintenance. He also did odd jobs, worked at the Magee Carpet Co., and was a cook. Most recently, he was a Deputy PA Game Protector from 1958 to 1992.
Budd was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Washington Lodge 265 F&AM, and the Caldwell consistory, all of Bloomsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, the former Mae L. Snowden, on January 20, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia L., wife of Donald F. Yoder, Bloomsburg; son, William R. Davenport, Pulaski, NY; daughter, Diane M., wife of David Abele, Blue Rock, OH; six grandchildren: Traci L. Yoder, Sue Ann, wife of Rick Zima, William R. Davenport, Jr., wife Shannon, Alan F. Dolan, wife Holly, Jay Abele, wife Brenda, Sara, wife of Ryan Hughes; and nine great-grandchildren: Harrison Zima, Hayden Zima, Christian Davenport, Clayton Davenport, Nathaniel Dolan, Rachel Dolan, Wyatt Abele, Caroline Hughes, and Paige Hughes.
Services will be private.
The arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
