Francis J. âFrankâ Radice, Ph. D., age 88, 152 W. Fourth St., Bloomsburg died at his home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 5:50 p. m. after a long illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on April 21, 1925, he was a son of the late Vincent and Catherine (deBattista) Radice. He resided in Bloomsburg for many years.
Frank was a graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College and held a masters degree and his Ph. D. from Penn State University. He last served as a professor of business administration at Bloomsburg University, retiring in 1985, becoming a Professor Emeritus at that time. He served as Assistant Chair and Acting Chair of the Universityâs Department of Business Administration, as well as serving on numerous campus committees over the years.
He was honored by student members of the Delta Mu Delta national honor society in business administration as an Outstanding Business Professor, and was honored by the College of Business faculty for contributions for meritorious departmental service by the Department of Finance & Business Law, and by Pi Omega National Honor Society in business education.
Frank was a member of the American Association of University Professors, the American Business Law Association, the Association of Pennsylvania State Colleges & University Faculties, Delta Pi Epsilon fraternity, National Honor Society in Business Education, National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.
He was the author of âTodayâs Business Lawâ and authored many articles on business law for professional publications.. He edited and contributed to the Pennsylvania Department of Education Bulletin 380, âBusiness Law for Business Education Departments in Pennsylvania Public Schools.â He was awarded a fellowship in life insurance by the American Association of University Teachers of Insurance and studied with the State Mutual Insurance Company of America.
Early in his life, he was employed at Reliance High School, Reliance, Wyoming and at Williamsport Senior High School, Williamsport. He also taught in the U. S. Air Force education program at Penn State University.
Frank served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theatres of War. He was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
A member of St. Paulâs Episcopal Church, he also belonged to the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society and was a life member of Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.
Frank was preceded in death by seven brothers: Eugene, Marchello, George, Edward, Vincent James, Julius and John.
Surviving are his wife, the former Susanne Duy, with whom he observed his 63rd wedding anniversary on July 21, 2013; a son, Eugene D. Radice, M.D., and his wife Karen, Bloomsburg; two daughters: Christiane Radice, Troy, Va. and Catherine Gedvilas, Tempe, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family and will also be remembered by a close friend, William Selden, Ph. D., Berwick.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1-3 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. The family will provide flowers. A private graveside service will be held in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg, with Rev. David Bateman, interim rector of St. Paulâs Episcopal Church officiating.
