Freda M. Leiby
Freda M. Leiby, age 95, formerly of West Main Street, Bloomsburg, died at 3:05 p. m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville, where she resided for five years.
Born in Milton on December 27, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Frederick and Blanche (Catherman) Nevel. She resided in Bloomsburg since 1936 and previously resided in Sunbury for 12 years. She was a 1938 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Freda was employed by the former Deisroth's Store, Bloomsburg from 1951 to 1961, where she was in charge of the drapery department. She also assisted her late husband in the office at the Bloomsburg Moose Club and also the treasurer's office at the Bloomsburg Fair.
She was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg and the Miquon Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists. She also had been a member of the former Bloomsburg Elkettes and Women of the Moose Chapter 721.
Freda was an avid Penn State football fan and of the Bloomsburg Fair, which was just a short walk from her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. "Skip" Leiby, on September 12, 1994; also by a brother, Alfred S. Nevel, Jr. and a sister, M. Louise Feldman.
Surviving are a brother, Paul S. Nevel, and his wife Rita, Bloomsburg; a sister, Dorothy Herrity, Palos Verdes, Calif.; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. John R. Koons, retired Lutheran minister officating. Private interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Freinds may call from 10-11 a. m.
