Frederick Harold McHenry, Jr.

Frederick  H. “Sonny”  McHenry, Jr.,   age 81,  317 Pecan Tree Drive, Montgomery, Ala.  36109,  died Tuesday evening, April 3, 2012, at the Baptist Medical Center South, Montgomery. He was in failing health for the past year.

Born August 9, 1930 on the family farm near Town Hill, Huntington Township, Luzerne County, he was the son of the late F. Harold, Sr.  and  Ruth E. (Franklin) McHenry.  He resided in the Town Hill area until moving to Montgomery in 1972.

Sonny was a 1948 graduate of the former Huntington Mills High School  and in 1969 he received an associate degree from Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre campus.

He worked  with his father on the 130 acre family farm until 1959 when his father retired and a portion of the farm was sold  to create Lake Pine Crest. Sonny  was then employed  as a shipping foreman at Milco Industries, Bloomsburg until 1969 when he accepted a position as an accountant at Irem Temple Country Club,  Dallas,  where he worked until moving to Montgomery in 1972.

In Montgomery, he was employed by the Price Apothecary at Jackson Hospital as a bookkeeper and delivery person from 1973 until he retired in 1997.

His first love was his personal relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He read the Bible several times from beginning to end and always found something new. His love for his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was beyond compare and he always took interest in their daily activities.

Sonny was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church, Montgomery. As a youth, he was baptized into membership at the Cambra Christian Church and later was an active member of the Stillwater Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader from 1966 to 1972.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mae I. Lechleitner on April 10, 2008 and Marion McHenry who died at age three; and a son-in-law, Edward S. Maggard on Nov. 5, 1994.

Surviving are his wife, the former P. Jane Robbins, a native of Bloomsburg, with whom he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2011; four daughters:  Jill A., wife of Dean W. Kriner, Bloomsburg; Tracey L. Maggard, Prattville, Ala..; Karen K., wife of William Whaley and Tami J. McHenry and her companion, Ricky Nixon, all of Montgomery; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen “Kit” Bonham Wagner, (Register) Stillwater.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with the Rev. Jay E. Jones, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg officiating. Interment in Scott Cemetery, Waterton.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2 p. m.
