Gary F. âBuckâ McCormick, age 60, of 4047 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, was pronounced dead at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 in the Emergency Room of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital, where he was taken following an accident in Catawissa.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 20, 1954, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. and Ruth E. (Snyder) McCormick. He spent his entire life in the Bloomsburg area, and was a 1972 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Buck was employed as an installer by Service Electric Cable Vision, Sunbury since 1982. Earlier he was employed at the Columbia County Courthouse for several years.
As a young man, Buck excelled at playing baseball, and was an outstanding first baseman; playing in the Little League, the Teener League, and in high school. During the 1980s, he was the lead vocalist for several local bands.
Buck was an outdoorsman, loved hunting, and was an avid fisherman who was known as âDr. Walleyeâ by his fishing buddies. He could always be counted on to share stories about his fishing experiences on the Susquehanna River, as well as sharing the fish he caught with friends and family. His sense of humor always left people with tears in their eyes.
Surviving are two sisters, Sandra K. McCormick and Carol A. Hunsinger, both of Bloomsburg; a brother, Thomas S. McCormick, wife Lynn, Bloomsburg; three nephews: Brian K. Rough, Catawissa; Jason C. Rough, Millville; Philip L. Hunsinger, Bloomsburg; a niece, Heather A. Hunsinger, Bloomsburg; and an aunt, Alice C. Sohn, Phillipsburg, N.J. He is also survived by several cousins and a boatload of fishing buddies.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Allen F. Acor, retired United Methodist minister and friend, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. or on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Eos Therapeutic Riding Center, 288 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 or to a charity of the donorâs choice.
