Geneva A. (Levan) Barnes

Geneva A. (Levan) Barnes, age 88, of 2391 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy), died early Saturday September 17, 2022 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville where she had been a patient.

Born in Mifflinville on January 17, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Melvin A. and Nellie P. (Robbins) Levan. She was a 1952 graduate of Berwick High School and resided in the Bloomsburg/Espy area for the past 65 years.

Geneva was employed at the former Rea & Derrick Drug Store in Berwick early in her life, and later by the former Fulton Lamp Company in Berwick for 12 and a half years.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.

Geneva loved to play games of all kinds and got much pleasure out of going fishing with her husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Andrew G. “Andy” Barnes, Sr. on April 30, 2015; a brother, Melvin A. Levan Jr., and three sisters; Lois Young, Louise Hacker, and Connie Bowman.

Geneva is survived by: a son, Andrew G. Barnes, Jr. and his wife Jill H. of Beebe, Ark.; a daughter, Pamela S. Barnes at home; two brothers-in-law, Francis Hacker, Sr. and Dean Bowman of Berwick; four nephews, John Barnes, Edward Barnes, Francis Hacker, Jr. and Terry Hacker, as well as six nieces; Vickie Riechers, Cindy Butz, Judy Reichart, Tammy Laubach, Nadine Hilburt and Josie Stewart.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market Street, Bloomsburg with her Pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
