George F. Acornley, age 71, of 305 Country Lane East, Orangeville (Stony Brook Circle), died early Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 28, 1943, he was a son of the late Albert and Eudora (Dennis) Acornley. A 1963 graduate of Central Columbia High School, he resided in the Bloomsburg area his entire life.
He was a member of Lightstreet United Methodist Church.
In high school George was a wrestler, played soccer and football. He was an outdoorsman who liked hunting and fishing in his younger years. Later in life he was a handyman, and enjoyed doing yard work for other people.
George owned and operated his own barber shop in Berwick for 50 years, retiring on his birthday in 2013.
He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Ernst, with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on June 28, 2015; a daughter, Angela Conner, Numidia; a son, Mark Acornley, husband Ricardo Galvan, Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren, Michael and Brenna Conner; a sister, Regina, wife of Richard P. Dent, Lightstreet; two brothers: Gordon Acornley, wife Darla, Bloomsburg and Dennis Acornley, wife Sharon, Indianapolis, Ind.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Georgeâs honor to a charity of the donorâs choice.
