George C. Berger, Jr., age 83, 235 W. Eleventh Street, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 10:15 a. m. Friday, July 6, 2018. He had been in failing health for the past year.
Born in Sunbury on September 10, 1934, he was a son of the late George C. and Mabel (Bickel) Berger. He resided in Bloomsburg for 80 years and was a 1952 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
George was last employed by the Merck Company in Riverside, retiring in 1996 after 20 years employment. Earlier he was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, for 20 years.
He was a member of the Bloomsburg Fire Department, Washington Lodge 254, F & AM and Caldwell Consistory, all of Bloomsburg. He especially enjoyed golfing and bowling. He served as a member of the U. S. Army Reserves for several years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Bickel and Keith Berger.
George is survived by his wife, the former Christine T. Bakalar and together they observed their 48th wedding anniversary on July 4th; five children: Barbara, wife of Daniel Coladonato, Bloomsburg; Robert H. Berger, and his wife Diana, Manalapan, N.J.; Beth Chapin, and her fiance', David Miller, Bloomsburg; Geoffrey C. Berger, and his wife Michelle, Orlando, Fla.; George C. Berger, III, and his wife Katie, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren: Marcus Chapin, Gage Berger, Zacary Berger, Zoey Berger, Gavin Berger, Liam Berger and Maryn Berger; a sister, Patricia Roadarmel and a brother, John D. Berger, both of Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with George's wishes, there will not be any funeral services or viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
