George Y. "Joe" Brennan
George Y. "Joe" Brennan, age 78, 365 East St., Bloomsburg, died at 10:01 a. m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for one week.
Born on May 3, 1935 in Ashburnham, Mass., he was a son of the late William and Eda (Stafford) Brennan. He resided in Bloomsburg for the past 32 years and prior to that in Lancaster, Mass.
He was a career member of the US Navy, serving for 20 years during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict until retiring in 1972. Following his military service, he worked as an over the road truck driver for 15 years and in recent years he was the deliveryman for Ralph Dillon's Flowers in Bloomsburg, last working about two weeks ago.
Joe was a longtime member of the Ft. Clure Post 804, VFW, Bloomsburg, where he was a former post commander.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings and his longtime companion, Sara M. Girton, who died on Jan. 2, 2011.
Joe is survived by two sons: Michael G. Brennan, Lancaster, Mass.; Ralph G.Brennan, and his wife Lauren, Hopkinton, Mass; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Bertha L. Landry, Ashburnham, Mass.; Janet Harling, Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and his special friend, Carol Balliet, Riverside.
Private services will be held in Ashburnham, Mass. Interment will be made in the New Cemetery, Cushing Street, Ashburnham, Mass. There will be no viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
