George W. Diamond, age 50, 2641 Tower Road, Bloomsburg, died at 3:46 p. m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Sun Home Hospice Care Center at the Sunbury Hospital, Sunbury, where he was a patient for two days. His death followed a brief illness.
Born in Bloomsburg on May 16, 1963, he was a son of the late George P. Diamond and Rose M. (Dimmerling) Diamond Barrett. His entire life was spent in the Bloomsburg area and he was a 1981 graduate of Central Columbia High School. He received a B.S. degree in political science from Bloomsburg University in 1985 and a Masterâs degree in Public Administration from Marywood College, Scranton in 1991.
George was currently employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Aging as a service specialist. Earlier he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections as a program analist and prior to that by the late Pennsylvania Representative, Ted Stuban.
He was an active member of the St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg, where he served as an usher and also for many years on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd & 4th degree.
George was active with the Boy Scouts of America all of his life. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and served as scoutmaster of Espy Troop 28. He worked with Scouts on their Eagle projects.
Surviving are his wife, the former Deborah A. Salak, with whom he celebrated 19 years of marriage on October 29, 2013; two sisters: Kathleen, wife of Lester R. Blosser, Bloomsburg and Ellyn M., wife of Francis P. Laverio, Jr., Sunbury; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will follow in Queen of the Universe Cemetery, St. Clair, Schuylkill County.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Christian services will be a 8 p. m.
