GEORGE H. RUBENSTEIN
George H. Rubenstein, age 85, 135 Ash Street, Orangeville (Stoney Brookj Circle), died at his home and was pronounced dead at 8:55 a. m. Sunday, October 24, 2010. He was in failing health for several years.
Born in Bloomsburg on April 22, 1925, he was a son of the late Frank O. and Mary K. (Hoss) Rubenstein. Most of his life was spent in Bloomsburg until he moved to Berwick in 1981 where he resided for nine years before moving to Stoney Brook Circle in 1990.
He was a 1943 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. Following high school he served in the US Coast Guard for three years during World War II.
George was employed by the former Maiers Bakery, Berwick, for 36 years and was a supervisor when he retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg and a life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.
George enjoyed playing golf and for a number of years, he spent his winters in Florida.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Belle Levan and Letha Rubenstein.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary E. Granata, whom he married on July 11, 1981 and they celebrated 29 years of marriage in July; a daughter, Sandra D., wife of Joseph L. Darlington, Bloomsburg; a sister, Grace Lutz, Danville; and a brother Charles Rubenstein, and his wife Thelma, Bloomsburg. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Joanne, wife of Paul Torsella, Berwick.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3254 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating. Interment will be private and at the conveinience of the family.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 p. m.
