Gerald J. “Jerry” Shultz, age 76, of 302 N. Third St., Catawissa, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at his residence; he had been in ill health for several years.

Born in Nescopeck on Oct. 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Ellsworth C. and Bertelle L. (Gearhart) Shultz.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of Catawissa and graduated from the former Catawissa High School in 1953, where he was an avid soccer and basketball player.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.

He was employed as the shipping foreman at the former Regal Shirt Factory and later the former Emenee Shirt Co., Catawissa; he then was employed at the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, for 18 years, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Catawissa, and served on the PPR Committee as treasurer for many years. He was a charter member of the Bloomsburg Archery Club and served as treasurer for the Catawissa High School Alumni Association. Jerry was a member of the North Kulp Hunting Camp, Catawissa, where he was currently the only member to have ever shot a black bear. He enjoyed numerous golf and bowling leagues and once shot a hole-in-one at Willow Run Golf Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ina E. Reeder, with whom he celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary on Oct. 20, 2011; three children: Timothy J. Shultz and his wife Gloria, Bloomsburg; Thomas J. Shultz, Bloomsburg, and Heidi, wife of Jason Muller, New London, Pa.; four grandchildren: Brenna Shultz and Eric Shultz, Fryeburg, Maine; Alex Muller and Jackson Muller, New London, Pa.; two sisters: Jacqueline, wife of Glenn Shoup, Easton; Robin, wife of Dan Swetman, McDonough, Ga.; and a brother, Victor Shultz and his wife Mel, Elysburg. He is also survived by his 16-year-old pet poodle, Ginger.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Orchard Drive, Catawissa, with his pastor, the Rev. Chadrick Carter, officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, or at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
