Geraldine C. “Gerry” Murphy, age 78, 601 E. Anthony Ave., Bloomsburg, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a courageous three month battle with health issues.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1938, in Grundy, Virginia, a daughter of the late Lemon Jack and Ethel (Mullins) Cochran. She grew up on a farm in Kegley, West Virginia with her nine siblings and looked forward to visiting her childhood home each summer. She was a 1957 graduate of Spanishburg High School Spanishburg, West Va.
Gerry liked to listen to country and bluegrass music and especially looked forward to visiting her sisters. She played a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren, who adored her. She was a kind and loving woman. Her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas X. Murphy on October 5, 1993 and by a brother, Paul Cochran.
Gerry is survived by a son, Stephen T. Murphy, Cogan Station; two daughters: Sharon B. Fedder and Kathaleen R. Murphy, both of Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Bridgette Fedder; three grandsons: Joey Murphy, Casey Murphy, Brady Murphy; two great-granddaughters: Ava and Emma, and soon to be born third great-grandchild; eight sisters: Maxine Thornton, West Va..; Ellene Ollis, West Va.; Phyllis, wife of Ted Thornton, Mich.; Florine, wife of Arnold Ferrell, Virginia; Emma, wife of Joe Brown, Mich.; Clara, wife of Bill Owens, Mich.; Mary Hall, West Va.; Nina Cochran, West Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held in West Virginia. There will be no viewing.
