Gloria A. Rupp, age 88, formerly of 591 W. Main Street, Bloomsburg, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Balanced Care at Bloomsburg, where she was a guest for five months. She had been in failing health for a year.
Born in Cleveland Twp., Columbia County on May 14, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Goldie (Artley) Rupp. A 1944 graduate of the former Locust Twp. High School, she resided locally for the past ten years, and previously lived in Allentown and Maryland.
Gloria was employed as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, now AT&T in Washington, D.C.; working in both the Smithsonian and the White House. She retired in 1981.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Maryland. Gloria enjoyed traveling, reading romance novels, word search puzzles and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by five sisters: Leah Rupp, Alma Morton, Effie Webb, Dolores Herring and Sarah Kellum; and two brothers, John Rupp and Glen Rupp.
Surviving are three sisters: Jean Hoppy, Benton; Ruby, wife of Donald Herring, Macungie; Patricia, wife of James Lang, Ocala, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 Noon in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Bethany P. Wood of Town Hill United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
