Gregory E. Kriner, age 52, of Tannersville and formerly of Benton, died at 10:34 p. m. Monday, March 15, 2021, in the emergency room of St. Luke Hospital – Monroe in Stroudsburg. His death came after a valiant eight-month battle with cancer.
Born in York on July 25, 1968, he was the son of Kay S. Farr-Kriner of Wilkes-Barre and Dean W. Kriner, and his wife Jill of Bloomsburg.
Greg grew up in Benton and was a 1986 graduate of Benton High School. In school he participated in the soccer program.
Following high school, he attended Mitchell College in New London, Conn. and later Green Mountain College in Vermont before returning to graduate from Mitchell.
At the time of his death, Greg was employed by the Borough of Kingston as Director of Parks and Recreation. In this capacity he was responsible for the community recreation center and also the municipal swimming pool. He held the position for over 20 years. Prior to that he was employed at Caesar’s Brookdale Resort in Mt. Pocono for several years.
He was an avid sports fan, a devoted husband and father. His son Jack spent his summers and vacations accompanying him to the recreation center. Greg also loved spending time at the beach.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Shannon Stevens, with whom he observed his 25th wedding anniversary on May 7, 2020; his son, Jack Farr Kriner, at home; two brothers: Jeffrey A. Kriner, and his wife Liz Woodworth, Bayfield, Wis., and Dana E. Kriner, and his wife Erica, Dauberville; a sister Cynthia L. Thompson, Corry; a niece Emily Kriner-Woodworth, Bayfield, Wis.; an aunt, Libby Vetter, Shavertown; a cousin Brian Vetter and Jade, Bethlehem and his mother-in-law, Karen Kimsey, Tannersville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at 5 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Friends may call from 2-5 p. m.
