Harold N. "Kirk" Kirkendall, age 85, 8 York Road, Bloomsburg, died at 9:05 a. m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he was a patient for one month.
Born in Espy on Feb. 9, 1926, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Ruth (Baker)( Kirkendall. He resided in Bloomsburg most of his life and was a 1943 graduate of Bloomsburg High School before attending Bucknell University, Lewisburg.
Harold was an electrician by trade and was last employed by the Howard Organization, and previously at the Kawneer, Corp. both of Bloomsburg. Earlier in his life he was employed at his family's business, Kirkendall Electric on the Old Berwick Road.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg and of the Danville-Mahoning Lodge 224, F & AM for over 50 years.
As a young man he played in the former American Legion Band and also was an avid flyer, learning to fly while he was in High School.
Harold served with the US Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy A. Sweitzer, on March 13, 2004 and by a brother, F. Robert Kirkendall on June 22, 1990.
Surviving is a daughter, Debbie K., wife of Thomas R. Bross, Nazareth; two grandchildren; and a sister, Betty, wife of Edward Harnischfeger, Freeport, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p. m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, Market & West Third Streets, Bloomsburg, with his pastors, Rev. Jay E. Jones and Rev. Jane L. O'Borski officiating. Private interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
