Harriet H. Hess

Harriet H. (Knouse) Hess, age 87, formerly of Shickshinny, died at 12 noon on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater, where she resided since November, 2014.

Born on August 8, 1929 in Sugarloaf Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Desley M. (Stout) Knouse. She attended the former Sugarloaf High School before graduating from Benton High School in 1947.

She last resided in Shickshinny and spent most of her life in the Bethel Hill and Huntington Mills areas.

Harriet was a member of the Bethel Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing when she attended church. She was also an avid butterfly collector.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archibald Hess on Oct. 2, 2006; by a son, David Hess on Sept. 24, 2015; and by two sisters: Eva Marie Goss on Sept. 3, 2016 and an infant, Amy.

Harriet is survived by a son, Charles Hess, and his wife Diane, Sweet Valley; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Hess, Sweet Valley; five grandchildren: Rita, wife of Fred Bardo, Sweet Valley; Charles Hess, Jr., Berwick; Donna Jean Hess, Sweet Valley; Timothy Hess, Berwick; Brentley Hess, Sweet Valley; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Floyd L. Goss, Sweet Valley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with her pastor, Michael T. Bodek officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 10-11 a. m.
