HAURICE J. CONNER
Haurice J. Conner, age 81, Rickett St., Orangeville, was pronounced dead at 9:29 a. m. Sat. Jan. 15, 2011 in the emergency room of The Berwick Hospital Center,
Born on Feb. 5, 1929 in Orangeville, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Genevieve G. (DeLong) Conner. He spent his entire life in Orangeville and graduated from the former Scott Township High School in 1950,
Haurice was employed last at the former Donald Reichart Lumber & Supply, Lightstreet where he worked for five years. Earlier he was employed by the former U. S. Radium Corp., Almedia for 25 years and at the Buckhorn Truck Stop for three years.
He was a member of the Orangeville United Church. He also was a life member of the East Berwick Fire Co.; the Orangeville Fire Co. and the Orangeville Sportsman's Association, and was a former Boy Scout Master for the Orangeville Troop.
An avid woodworker, he also enjoyed Lionel trains.
Haurice cooked for the Bee Seller Hunting Club, Stillwater. He and his wife also operated Bowman's French Fries at area carnivals for a number of years and a food stand at the annual Bloomsburg Fair.
He served with the US Army during the Korean War.
Haurice was preceded in death by two brothers: Reamer H. Conner on Sept. 11, 1998 and Maurice P. Conner on Dec. 25, 2000; and a sister, Harriet A. Corell on Jan. 13, 2005.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Lou George, with whom he celebrated his 57th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2010, and four children: Alice B. Conner, and her companion Rick Karns, Millsboro, Del.; Ruth A., wife of David Strauser, Orangeville; James P. Conner, and his wife Betty, Stillwater; Stella J., wife of Harvey Longenberger, Jr., Berwick; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Darryl E. Kensinger officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville, with military honors by the combined VFW group.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p. m.
