Helen R. Schutz, age 87, of 229 Church Road, Bloomsburg, died at 11:04 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Berwick on November 6, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Harrison) Rusinko. Helen resided in the Bloomsburg area most of her life. After graduating from Berwick High School, she attended the former Bloomsburg State Teacherâs College before going on to receive her Bachelorâs Degree in Health and Human Development from Penn State University.
Helen was employed as the Health and Physical Education Instructor at Bloomsburg Middle School for over 20 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg. Helen was an avid Penn State sports fan; enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching tennis, and going to the beach in her younger years. She especially enjoyed doting on her grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by a brother, John Rusinko, Jr.; and by three sisters: Anna Costa, Mary Rusinko and Susan Rusinko
Surviving is her husband, Albert S. Schutz, with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage on March 6, 2015; a son, Wayne A. Schutz, wife Melanie, Harrisburg; two daughters: Mary Ellen Gutknecht, Buffalo, Minn. and Susan A., wife of Stephen Warner, State College; and six grandchildren: Danica, Anna, Albert, Andrew, Kathleen and Michelle. There are also 11 nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held this Sunday at 1 PM, July 26, 2015, in the First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg, with a time of food and fellowship to follow. Friends are invited to share their memories before and after the service.
