Helen J. Speer

Helen J. (Krawizcki) Speer, age 90, formerly of 170 Hemlock Street, Bloomsburg (Fernville), died at 6:06 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Queens Medical Center,  Ewa Beach, Island of Oahu , Hawaii where she was a patient.

Born in Berwick on June 30, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Stephen C. and Rose (Henger) Krawizcki. She attended Berwick High School. She resided in Fernville for much of her life and in Hawaii  since 2010.

Helen was self employed as the owner of the former Helen's Inn in Hemlock Township and she last owned Speer's Kitchen in the Market Street Plaza until retiring.

She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. She also belonged to a number of organizations while living in Bloomsburg: Catawissa VFW Auxiliary;  Bloomsburg American Legion Auxiliary;  the former Fernville Fire Co.; and the Bloomsburg Chapter, Women of the Moose.

Helen lived with her son Richard in Hawaii and they enjoyed traveling extensively , cruising around the world.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Speer,  on July 5, 1985 and by a sister, Marian Yodock.

She is survived by four sons: Robert L. Speer, Jr., and his wife Deb, Northumberland; Steven F. Speer, and his wife Dionne "Dee", Fernville; Richard A. Speer, Waipahu, Hawaii; Daniel C. Speer, and his wife Diane, Catawissa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Betty, widow of William Kreprich, Berwick and Shirley, wife of Charles Fowler, Berwick; a brother, Joseph Krawizcki, and his wife Sandy, Lancaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August  5, 2019,  at 10 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by her pastor, Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will follow in New  Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

Viewing will be on Sunday  from 3-5 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg and on Monday from 9-10 a. m. at St. Columba Church. Christian Wake services will be held on Sunday at 4:30 p. m. at the funeral home.
