Helena Jeanne Bower

Helena Jeanne (Shaffer) Bower, age 95, formerly of Millville died at 5:55 p. m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Bloomsburg where she resided for four years.

Born in Bloomsburg on July 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Carl E. and Bessie A. (Kishbaugh) Shaffer. Her early life was spent in Bloomsburg, where she was a 1940 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

Helena was employed at the Columbia County Court House in Bloomsburg for many years. Following her retirement, she assisted her late husband in his business of selling dairy industry equipment.

She was a longtime member of the Mill Green United Methodist Church, Millville and the Fort McClure Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Helena was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon L. Bower; four sisters: Genevieve Martha Shaffer; Tillie Marie Hyde; Betty Arlene Shoemaker; Dorothy Elizabeth Evans; and a brother, Ray E. Shaffer.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Robert Strozyk officiating. DAR memorial services will be held at 11 a. m. Interment in the Millville Cemetery. Viewing from 10-11 a. m.
