Howard E. McKinnon, age 74, 809 Cherry Hill Road, Bloomsburg, died at 5:17 a. m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Danville, where he was a patient.
Born in East Orange, New Jersey on October 16, 1942, the only child of the late Howard and Genevieve (Labieniec) McKinnon.
Howard was a 1960 graduate of New Britain High School, New Britain, Conn. And a 1964 graduate of the University of Connecticut where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. program. Following college he served as a captain with the U. S. Army for three years. He saw duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1967.
He was the President of the former Berwick Forge & Fabricating Co., Berwick and later was employed by Alta Enterprises, Bethlehem as a sales representative, retiring in 2013.
Howard was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg, where he served as the first basketball coach. He also belonged to the Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville, Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
He served as a director of the Bloomsburg University Foundation for many years and was honored by the University by being named an honorary alumnus in 1988.
Surviving are his wife, the former Judith M. Aiudi, with whom he celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary on May 22, 2016; a daughter, Tracie, wife of George Foutrakis, Oxford; a son, Jeffrey McKinnon, and his wife Deanna, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Krista, Joseph and Leah Foutrakis and Kyra and Connor McKinnon. He was the last of his immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:30 a. m. in St Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg by his pastor, Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery with military honors by the combined Veterans group.
Friends may call on Saturday from 9-11 a. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Emmanuel Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation for their compassion and the love extended to Howard during his stay.
