Irene Y. Bowman

Irene Y. Bowman, age 83, 46 Victory Street,  Orangeville ( Stony Brook Circle) died at the home of her daughter, Linda Monroe, in Almedia, surrounded by her family and friends and Family Care aides, while under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice, and her son in law, Frank Monroe who was her primary caregiver, on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 1:13 p. m. She had been  in failing health since 2011.

Born in Berwick on July 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Jesse E. and Vida (Boston) Yocum. She resided in the Lightstreet area most of her life and she was a 1949 graduate of the former Scott High School in Espy.

Irene was last employed by Weis Markets in Bloomsburg, retiring in 2010 and earlier she worked at the former Bloom Mills and Baronel Garment Co.  She and her husband also managed the Brookside Village in North Centre Township for a number of years.

She was a member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church.

Irene enjoyed knitting, word search puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and especially her dog, “BJ”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle  E. Bowman on January 2, 2013 and also by three  brothers and two sisters.

Irene is survived by her son, David E. Bowman, and his wife Sharon, Berwick; a daughter, Linda K., wife of Frank Monroe, Almedia; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;   six sisters in law: Darl Bowman, Phyllis Pugh,  Margaret Lemons, Betty Bowman, Betty  Zerfoss, Joyce Johnson Curfman and a brother in law, Alvin Albeck. The last of her immediate family she is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Jennifer Parks-Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a. m.
